Fries With That?
Legalized Euthanasia
Terri Schindler Schiavo is in a vegetative state, but has no life sustaining problem. Nothing wrong with her that will prohibited her from living. Except for not being given proper nourishment.
On Friday, the whole world stood back and watched as this 41 year old women started down the path of being murdered. And the world is still watching that murder today. Any time now it will be complete, and she will die. Much to the relief of her husband, Michael. Following are facts you will not hear on your evening news.
Michael claims his wife told him she would never want to live in a vegetative state. Interestingly enough he seemed to forget she told him that for two years after her “accident.” For some reason people who could change the course of her murder believe him.
Details of her “accident” were never fully explained. It was proven medically that oxygen was blocked to her brain for 8 minutes. Michal Schiavo has no explanation for this.
Back in 1990 doctors said Terri should be put in an intensive rehabilitation center. Michael, as her legal guardian, refused to send her.
In 1992 Michael won a malpractice suit for Terri, promising to use the money for therapy. Since then he has spent the 1 million dollars lawyers, trying to starve his wife. He continued to refuse to send her to therapy.
In 2000 a few doctors reported that Terri could swallow on her own.
When undergoing a bone scan years ago, Terri showed spinal and other injuries that were never accounted for. In 2002 medical reports showed that she was probably the victim of abuse.
For ten years Michael has been living with a woman who is obviously not his wife. He has had two children with her.
Michael was the only one with Terri during her “accident.” He says she wants to kill herself.
In 1998, Michael first petitioned the courts to remove Terri's feeding tube. He's been trying since then. He succeeded last Friday. Since then, she has been without food. She is nearing death, and uncontrollable, unaccountable, judges are allowing her to die.
Today, I am ashamed to be called an American.
Another Story
You know, the whole situation with Terri Schiavo reminds me of another news story. It involved a murder, the death of an person. It involved a trial that was pushed along from court to court, no judge wanting to deal with it. It involved a group of people wanting to kill someone, and other people who wanted that life spared. And it also involved the betrayal of that person by someone close.
This story took place some 2,000 years ago. A man named Jesus was crucified. Fortunately for each one of us, He was no mere man. He was the Son of God, and His death involved the forgiveness of sin. The forgiveness of our sin. He has the power to forgive each of us, and his death is the gift he offers. The gift of a relationship with God.
This gift would be void if that was the end of this “story.” If nothing else happened we would be stuck with our sins, stuck without a relationship with God. Thankfully, Jesus rose from the dead, three days after his burial. We celebrate that resurrection today, Easter Sunday 2005.
You might think this is “old news.” But it's as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago. And it's a story that'll change your life.
This Issue of “Fried With That” is a little different than usual, more of a serious tone. Not much happened the past few weeks that surpassed the constant news of the Schiavo case – that's why it's a little empty. But as editor, I'd appreciate it if you take time to think about the second story. The Easter story. If you've made the gift yours, take some time to thank God for the gift this Holiday.
If you haven't accepted God's gift, the choice is yours. Mrs. Schiavo has little chance of surviving, and I'm afraid her death will only lead our country towards a path of liberalism. But you have a choice of what to do with Jesus' death. You're decision can give Christ's death meaning. Not meaning for Him, but meaning for you.
Make the right choice.
